The Real Madrid striker spoke to Serbian outlet B92: “We have all been ordered to stay at home and remain in Madrid, we’re waiting for instructions from the club”.
Real Madrid are in quarantine after basketball team player Trey Thompkins tested positive for coronavirus. All employees at the club were informed of the situation at around 11:00 hours this morning – just as the football team were due to start their morning training session in Valdebebas. At 11:30, all of the players abandoned Real Madrid City and have been told to self-isolate for the next 15-20 days. One member of the first team squad, Luka Jovic, was the first to talk to the media about the situation. The striker explained what happened to Serbian outlet B92. “We went to the training ground this morning but people from the club came to tell us that training had been cancelled – and there would be no more sessions during the next two weeks. We have been ordered to stay at home and remain in Madrid”, Jovic said.
Jovic, who also revealed that he has been suffering from minor fitness problems during the past few days (which he didn’t have when he was left out of the squad list for the games against Barça and Betis), said that he had shared the same training facilities in Valdebebas as Thompkins: “When I fell injured and wasn’t training with the group during the past two or three days, I used the same exercise equipment as a player who has contracted coronavirus,” he explained, adding that he is feeling fine with no health issue. “I feel really good, I don’t have symptoms ; we’re waiting for the club to give us more instructions”.
For the time being, Madrid have decided to stop all activity and send all of the players and workers from the first team squad home. Zidane has informed his players that there will be no more training sessions until further notice, although all of the players will receive an exercise programme to follow in their own homes so as they maintain their weight and muscle tone for when competitions resume. LaLiga is on hold for at least two weeks. The Champions League return leg against Manchester City which was due to take place on Tuesday has also been postponed by UEFA. Nobody at the club would venture a guess as to when normal activity might return.
