Inter forward Lautaro Martinez is currently Barcelona’s primary transfer objective for next season, and while Neymar’s name still crosses minds, the high cost of a deal with Paris Saint-Germain makes things complicated, says Marca.

Not that Lautaro will be cheap either, but the cost of any transfer is significantly lower, both in terms of fee and contract given to the player should he sign with Barcelona.

A determining factor is the desire of the player and Lautaro wants to go to the Camp Nou. At least that’s what he has told Barcelona.

Other clubs such as Real Madrid and Manchester City had the player on their agenda, but now their objectives are different. The former are looking at Erling Haaland, with the former happy to stick with Kun Aguero and Gabriel Jesus.

For Barcelona, the signing of Lautaro is a priority as the forward line is urgently in need of strengthening, plus with Luis Suarez turning 34 years old next January, an heir is needed, particularly given the Uruguayan’s injury problems over the last two seasons.

Just a few days ago, Inter’s owners indicated that they would not open the exit door for Lautaro until the striker has expressed a desire to leave the club.

And Lautaro is willing to do just that and is aware the summer is the best time to leave the Serie A side. He is especially care that if a good offer comes along, it should not be missed.

Once he makes his move, negations with Inter will follow, and although his release clause is 110 million euros, his market value is significantly lower.

One of the keys to negotiating with Inter will be to include players in any potential deal. With a transfer market likely to contract due to the economic crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic, Barcelona will look to lower the fee paid.

Arturo Vidal is an option that has always been on the table, while La Gazzetta dello Sport have suggested Nelson Semedo, Carles Alena, Arthur and Marc Cucurella.

The latter two are impossible with the Brazilian not for sale, and Barcelona are no longer in control over Cucurella’s future.
