A legal practitioner, Mr. Olalekan Adedeko, has accused officials of the National Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, for being responsible for his broken arms and legs after they allegedly pushed him down from a storey building. According to Adedeko, men of the NSCDC injured him while trying to arrest him for not producing client he stood surety for at the office of the corps. The lawyer was first taken to the State Specialist Hospital, Akure, after which he was reportedly referred to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos. He alleged that he broke his arms and legs during the incident, which occurred at Ortita Obele area of Akure, Ondo State at the weekend.
Adedeko claimed that there was a dispute between his client, ODOPOS Property Ownership Scheme and one Mr. Ralph Alabi, over a contractual agreement which could not be met because of issues beyond his client’s control.
Adedeko said while it was true that his client defaulted in the payment of the contractual amount agreed, it was not one of the responsibilities of NSCDC to help recover debts or intervene in civil matters. The legal practitioner added that last Tuesday some NSCDC officials came to the company’s premises and arrested him and other officials of the company. He said he was released six hours later while he went there the following day to secure the release of his client.
