The lawyer who was kidnapped while returning from her call-to-bar ceremony and her sister who accompanied her have regained freedom.
Recall that Peace Onyesom Udoka, a recently sworn-in lawyer, and her sister Gift Onyesom were kidnapped along the Okene-Auchi road on Friday, September 26.
They had attended the call-to-bar ceremony in Abuja on September 23 and were returning to Benin when they were kidnapped.
Days later, their family disclosed that the abductors are demanding N40m ransom before they would be released.
Giving update on the case, human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu announced today, September 30, that the sisters have regained freedom.
He stated that Peace regained freedom on her birthday, September 30. He added that the sisters were released to authorities at a village near Okpella.
He did not disclose if ransom was paid.
Gwamnishu wrote: “Peace Onyesom Udoka and Gift Onyesom kidnapped while returning from Call to Bar ceremony in Abuja have just been released to us at a village near Okpella.
“It’s a tough journey. Details later today or tomorrow morning.”
