Liverpool agree deal with stat leading Belgian, announcement soon – originally posted on Soccerlens.com
Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has agreed to extend his contract with Liverpool.
The Belgian has agreed on an extension until 2021 and is expected to sign the deal soon.
An official announcement is expected when the player puts pen to paper. The player’s representatives will soon travel to England to complete the formalities according to Express.
The Liverpool shot stopper’s contract was due to expire in 2018 but the Anfield hierarchy have decided to secure his long-term future at the club.
Although Mignolet has struggled to put in quality performances consistently since joining the Reds from Sunderland, the Belgian is undoubtedly the best keeper at the club.
Mignolet topped the Premier League clean sheets table in 2015 and finished with the highest number of clean sheets during the calendar year.
Furthermore, manager Jurgen Klopp has publicly stated that he is not looking to replace the Belgian and considers him as the first choice keeper.
Liverpool were linked with moves for several keepers including the likes of Jack Butland and Barcelona’s Marc-Andre Ter Stegen.
Even if Liverpool decide to upgrade on Mignolet in the summer, it makes sense for them to secure his services.
The Belgian is good enough to be a useful squad player and will provide Klopp with quality in depth.
