In an ordinary season, Liverpool stars would by now have already had their feet up reflecting on a first Premier League title in 30 years.
Instead they are spending the late May bank holiday weekend back on the training pitch at Melwood as they hope to build up their fitness once more for the return of the Premier League in June following the coronavirus outbreak that halted the season back in March.
Despite distance training still being enforced as a result of the pandemic, Jurgen Klopp’s outfit looked lively on Saturday as the Reds boss monitored his stars closely.
Many of the Reds players looked relaxed during a session which even saw some Liverpool staff get involved.
One member of the team took time out from arranging the various training apparatus by playing around with a football despite being covered in protective wear that included a face mask and a perspex visor as part of safety measures in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak.
Klopp himself opted to wear a face mask in the mild spring conditions, before removing it when he needed to communicate with his team.
Many of Liverpool’s first team stars were present including skipper Jordan Henderson as well as striker Roberto Firmino and key defender Virgil van Dijk as they practised their control with the ball.
Before the coronavirus outbreak, Liverpool were well on course to secure the Premier League title as runaway leaders at the top of the table.
Regardless of how their rivals fare, the Reds would win the title providing they win two of their remaining nine games.
