Atletico Madrid left-back Renan Lodi will be able to return to training on Friday after finding out that his second PCR test for coronavirus has come back negative.
This came 72 hours after his first test, so, in accordance with the National Sports Council’s protocol, the Brazilian is now able to train normally with the rest of his teammates.
The tests on Lodi had been brought forward after the laboratory’s medical adviser recommended it to both Atletico’s medical team and LaLiga themselves due to the fact the defender’s case was atypical.
The reason for this is that, despite the fact that Lodi had symptoms several weeks ago and had numerous antibodies as a result, he still had traces of the virus in his body, something that was deemed ‘incompatible’.
Therefore, after two PCR tests this week, it is now clear that the 22-year-old no longer has coronavirus.
Lodi will now be able to join the individual training sessions that the group are carrying out at Atletico’s training ground, without having any kind of restrictions ahead of the partial return to group training sessions next week.
