Man passes away after gambling addiction struggle, apologizes to girlfriend in farewell note

A Nigerian man has tragically taken his own life after battling a severe gambling addiction, leaving behind a heartbreaking note addressed to his brothers, girlfriend, and close friends.

The incident came to light through a post shared on the popular social media platform, X (formerly Twitter).

In the post, a handwritten note was seen being held by someone who reportedly discovered it at the scene.

The content of the note reads:  

“I am very sorry I had to take this route — I found no joy in living. To my younger brothers, Sammy and Victor, to my girlfriend, Mary, I’m deeply sorry. To my friends, I’m sorry for letting you all down.”

“I became addicted to gambling, a habit I desperately wished to overcome. I tried countless times to quit, but I kept falling back into it.”

“God has always been kind to me, blessing me with connections that brought money my way. But the moment money touched my hands, the urge to gamble would overwhelm me until I lost everything.”

“This addiction pushed me into heavy debts, borrowing from friends who even went as far as standing as guarantors for me — people like Osas, Mabel, Shade, and Richard.”

“Above all, I wish Usman Goman, a retired former Assistant Inspector of Police, would find it in his heart to forgive me — as well as Sunny, who introduced me to the boss — for collecting money from a tenant and failing to remit it.”

“It was never my intention to withhold the money, but circumstances spiraled out of control.”

“To everyone I have caused pain and agony, I beg for your forgiveness. I can no longer bear the weight of seeing those I love suffer because of me. The only crime you committed was loving me too much and going the extra mile to make me happy.”
