A Nigerian man has shared the inspirational story of a secondary schoolmate who repeated JSS2 and SS2 after failing Mathematics and English but is now a lecturer in Canada.
The story was shared in a lengthy post on his page on X (formerly Twitter), where he emphasized the importance of patience and perseverance in life.
According to the post, his friend was devastated when he had to repeat SS2 due to failing Mathematics and English.
It was the second time he had repeated a class, having also repeated JSS2 earlier. Despite the setback, the friend eventually passed the exams, wrote JAMB, and gained admission into the University of Lagos.
Fast forward to the present, the man is now a lecturer in a Canadian university, demonstrating that persistence pays off.
The author of the post also revealed his own struggles, sharing that, despite passing WAEC in one sitting, he had to write JAMB four times before gaining admission.
He detailed his JAMB scores as follows:
– 2006: 187
– 2007: 196
– 2008: No Result
– 2009: 226
He noted that his friend, who initially lagged behind, gained admission earlier than him and was already in 300 level by the time he secured admission.
The post concluded with words of encouragement:
“There’s really no hurry in life. Your journey is unique to you. If it doesn’t happen now, it doesn’t mean it won’t happen later. Be patient, run your race, and celebrate the achievements of others.”
FULL STATEMENT: “There is really no hurry in life!’
“While I was in secondary school, I have this friend who repeated SS2 because he failed Maths and English. I moved past him and went ahead to write WAEC in SS3 while he lagged one year behind.”
“Mind you, this is the 2nd time he’s repeating a class – he initially repeated JSS2, and now SS2..”
“I remember how embarrassed he felt, he cried bitterly when he collected his result. He did not find it funny!’

“2006 – 187”
“2007 – 196”
“2008 – No Result”
“2009 – 226”
“Before I could gain admission.”
“But my guy finished a year after me and made his SSCE and JAMB once and got into University of Lagos.”
“By the time I gained admission in 2009/10, he was about to enter 300level.”
“We are still very much in touch till this day, he’s a lecturer in one of the Universities in Canada.”
