Man tracks kidnappers through POS agent after ₦4m ransom demand, rescues victim

A Nigerian man has successfully tracked down a group of kidnappers and rescued their victim after they made a critical mistake — using the victim’s phone to contact a POS agent while demanding a ₦4 million ransom.

This was revealed in a post shared on popular social media platform, X, formerly known as Twitter, by the tracker who identified himself as @Otunbakush1.

In the viral post, @Otunbakush1 detailed how he was able to uncover the kidnappers’ location and secure the victim’s release.

According to him, the victim was kidnapped around Ijanikin, and during ransom negotiations, the kidnappers used the victim’s phone to make several calls, including one to a POS agent.

Acting on this lead, the tracker traced the POS agent and instructed him to tell the kidnappers that the ransom had been paid.

Rather than showing up in person to collect the money, the kidnappers provided the agent with another POS account to receive the funds.

The tracker then traced the second POS agent, a lady, and instructed her to also confirm to the kidnappers that the ₦4 million had been received.

However, the kidnappers made a crucial error — they used their personal phone number to contact the second POS agent. This allowed @Otunbakush1 to trace their exact location, which led to their hideout in a bushy area in Ijanikin.

The victim was successfully rescued, and the kidnappers were apprehended.

Sharing the experience, @Otunbakush1 wrote: “Someone got kidnapped and ransom was requested. They kept using the victim’s phone to make calls, but the kidnappers slipped up — they used the same phone to call a POS vendor. Impossible right? But not to worry, I suggested we track the POS vendor.”

“We located him and asked him to tell the kidnappers the ransom had been paid. We thought they would show up to collect the cash (₦4 million), but instead, they sent another POS account to receive the money. That location was Ijanikin.”

“Immediately, I tracked the second POS lady and told her to inform them the money had been received. Unfortunately for the kidnappers, they used their personal phone to call the POS lady. We tracked them to a bushy area in Ijanikin. Victim rescued, kidnappers arrested.”

He further revealed that the oldest kidnapper was just 30 years old and warned Nigerians to be careful of the vehicles they enter, stating that the victim had boarded a Sienna from Lekki heading toward Oshodi before blacking out.

As the post spread online, concerned individuals flooded the comment section to share their thoughts.
