Manchester United are considering another raid on Sporting Lisbon this summer for their highly rated left-back Nuno Mendes.

The 17-year-old has yet to make his senior debut for the Portuguese side but has already been targeted as a star for the future by many of Europe’s top clubs.

United are one of those sides and with the defender having the same agent as Bruno Fernandes in Miguel Pinho, he could be in line to following his compatriot to Old Trafford from Sporting after the midfielder’s £67million switch to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s outfit in January.

According to Portuguese daily Record, United were hoping to sign Mendes as well as Fernandes around the same period.

Although no such offer from United has been made since, the 17-year-old remains of high interest to those at the club.

Despite having not made his senior debut, United would be expected to pay a large transfer fee given his high valuation by the the Portuguese giants.

Sporting president Frederico Varandas has already admitted to taking enquiries from other clubs for the young star who he rates highly.

‘He’s the best Under 19 left-back in Europe,’ he told Canal 11 this week.

‘There have already been approaches from major European clubs with concrete proposals.’
