“Marry a woman who wants…” — Reno Omokri advises men on who to marry

A fresh debate on marriage expectations has erupted online after former presidential aide Reno Omokri shared strong advice to men about choosing a life partner.

Writing on X, Omokri urged men to be careful about the kind of woman they marry, warning against relationships built on financial dependence rather than partnership.

“Marry a partner, not a burden”

In his post, Omokri advised men to marry women who genuinely want a husband and life partner, not someone seeking financial sponsorship.

Dear men, Marry a woman who wants a husband and life partner,” he wrote.

He cautioned against marrying a woman who sees her husband as a financier for an expensive lifestyle, family responsibilities, and endless future demands.

According to him, marriage should be about contribution and shared growth, not wealth distribution by one party alone.

“You need a contributor in your life, not someone whose only ambition after marriage is to be a distributor of your wealth, which she did not contribute to building.

“That’s the difference between marrying a buddy and wedding a burden,” he added.

His comments quickly gained attention, sparking mixed reactions from users.

Public reactions pour in

Many users agreed with his stance, describing it as timely advice for young men preparing for marriage.

Nell, however, offered a different perspective. She wrote: “Exactlyl, but what if the real problem isn’t her spending, it’s expecting men to act like walking banks? Wealth isn’t love, ambition shared is what keeps marriage alive.”

Emeka strongly supported Omokri’s message. He commented: “Young men in search for wife. This is solid advice. Adhering to it will not fail you. Marriage is one of the most important decision to make. Choose wisely.”

Mosafejo argued that financial capacity also matters. He wrote: “Normally your advice is the true best. But a man who knows he is or can be making 100m Naira a month can be giving 7m to a woman/her family, no distribution.

“Problem is when other entities hijacked the man sources of income and attached his problem to 7m he was giving the woman”.

Jacob shifted the focus to emotional responsibility in relationships. He stated: “The biggest lie we’re told is. Be with someone who make you happy. The truth is happiness is something you create by yourself. BE WITH SOMEONE WHO ADD HAPPINESS TO YOU.”
