The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), under the leadership of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has announced that fasting may continue on Sunday, March 30, 2025, as the moon signaling the end of Ramadan has not yet been sighted in Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Saturday by NSCIA’s Secretary-General, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, the council urged Muslims to search for the crescent of Shawwal on the 29th day of Ramadan.
If sighted in accordance with verified moon sighting standards, the Sultan will officially declare Sunday, March 30, 2025, as the first day of Shawwal and the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr.
The statement read:
“If Muslims sight the crescent in accordance with the moon sighting and verification standards, then His Eminence will declare Sunday, 30 March 2025, as the 1st of Shawwal and the day of Eid ul-Fitr.”
The announcement comes after Saudi Arabia declared Sunday, March 30, 2025, as Eid-el-Fitr.
