With the race for European football tickets getting more intriguing, SuperSport viewers on DStv and GOtv can look forward to another thrilling weekend of European football.
As it stands in the Premier League, eight points are separating third to sixth place making the race for next season UEFA Champions League hotter as curtain gradually falls on the 2019/2020 season with four games left.
Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder who believes his side shouldn’t be anywhere near the seventh position they are has said: “We haven’t got the strength and power other clubs have, but we have plenty of heart and bottle.”
That ‘plenty of heart and bottle’ will be put to the test on Saturday, July 11, when his side hosts Chelsea. The game is as vital to the Blues as it is to Sheffield looking to secure a ticket to European football next season. Saturday also features Manchester City and Brighton.
The star match of the weekend is the North London Derby. Coming out of four games unbeaten, Arsenal will be locking horns with Spurs in what promises to be an intriguing Derby on Sunday, July 12. The same day, Wolves who have suffered two-straight defeats in five days will host Everton, Aston Villa in the relegation zone will face a hard-fighting Crystal Palace, while Leicester struggling to keep its place in the top four will host Bournemouth battling for survival out of the relegation zone.
In La Liga, Barcelona moved to one point of Real Madrid to brighten their chances for a third consecutive Spanish title after their fiery 1-0 win over Espanyol on Wednesday. On Friday, Real Madrid with 77 points at the top may restore their four-point advantage when they play Deportivo Alaves that have not won away to Los Blancos in two decades.
Madrid will back themselves to beat Alaves with manager Zinedine Zidane looking to the likes of Karim Benzema, Eden Hazard and Vinicius Junior to maintain their La Liga lead and keep up the fine form they have shown since the league’s resumption.
Juventus may have missed the chance to go 10 points clear in their battle toward a ninth successive Serie A title after a 4-2 loss to AC Milan at San Siro on Tuesday. However, manager Maurizio Sarri says there is no point dwelling on the loss after his team had dominated the game for an hour before conceding three second-half goals in five minutes.
“It’s usually not even possible to find the reasons for these inexplicable blackouts…Sitting here trying to over-analyse it or put ourselves on trial could be counterproductive and make us lose all the good work we’ve done so far,” says Sarri who appears to have put the past behind him with his eyes now set on the next game against a high-flying Atalanta on Saturday night.
Juve’s first title rivals Lazio will be in action in the first weekend game on Saturday, as they host Sassuolo that have not lost its last five games. After suffering an upsetting loss to Lecce on Tuesday, Lazio manager Simone Inzaghi will be backing his team to complete a league ‘double’ and keep up their push for a first title since the year 2000.
No rival can compete with SuperSport’s coverage. Our viewers on DStv and GOtv can see all their favourite stars from the African continent dominating Premier League, La Liga and Serie A pitches across England, Spain and Italy!
