One of the victims of the Ozubulu massacre, Chief Cyprian Otuadimma Ikegwuonu (Ichie Akunwafor) was buried in a special cenotaph dedicated for the victims of August 6th, 2017 church attack beside St Philip’s Catholic Church, Amakwa Ozubulu in Anambra state. Chief Cyprian who was the father of the apparent target, Aloysius Nnamdi Ikegwuonu a.k.a Bishop, a wealthy young philanthropist – was buried on Friday the 12th day of January, 2018.
It could be remembered that gunmen stormed St Philip’s Catholic Church during mass, opened fire killing 13 worshippers and injuring several others.
The Catholic Diocese of Nnewi suggested that those that were killed should be buried in the piece of land adjacent to the church.
According to reports, the 12th person was buried on 4th day of January and the 13th Ichie Ikegwuonu was buried on Friday.
It was a big ceremony, presided over by two Bishops, scores of Catholic Priests, 7 Anglican Clergies, top government officials, several Igwes and Anambarians who gathered for the sorrowful event.
According to Val Iwuchukwu, the Chief mourner, High Chief Aloysius Nnamdi Ikegwuonu the MD/CEO of St Aloysius Oil and Gas gave a heartwarming speech at the burial.
He told his audience that three days before his Father was murdered in cold blood and killed in a consecrated place of worship, that his Father did something unusual.
Normally everyday people in need gather in his house especially when they notice that he is about to travel back to base, but that day the number was unprecedented to the extent that the cash he has was not enough. His late Father called him, commanded him to sit down, he went inside his house and brought N2m and asked him to continue sharing.
But that was the cash he earlier gave his Father for the ongoing renovation work in their Compound. But the old man directed him to share the cash out, three days later, he was murdered. He said that his Father’s dead has strengthened his resolve to serve God and humanity. That’s why he built houses for the needy, built churches, banks and roads without building houses in the name of acquiring personal landed properties.
He concluded that all is vanity, saying that the people should stop mourning and that those are being cried for died as martyrs and as such are in better place. He said that he will die one day and that if he has a choice, he will like to die like a martyr…
