My wife and I have never argued in 17 years of marriage – David Oyedepo Jnr. says

David Oyedepo Jnr. has said that he and his wife Kemi “have never had a single argument throughout 17 years of marriage”. 
 

Oyedepr Jnr., who is the son of the founder of Living Faith Church, disclosed this while preaching at a recent church gathering. 

He said the enduring peace in his marriage is thanks to a deliberate and scripture-based decision made at the outset of their union. 

David, 42, said a preaching he heard made him reject the widespread notion that conflict is an inevitable part of marriage, labelling such thinking “deception from the devil”. 

He said his conviction was formed years ago after hearing a sermon that cited a biblical passage to claim marriage inherently brings “troubles in the flesh”. 
 

“Years ago, I heard a man preaching from 1 Corinthians. And he began to talk about marriage. I was not married then. I was in a courtship with my wife. And he was talking about marriage,” he said. 

“I am reading from the Word of God, and I have learnt over time that God’s word is the highest authority. Whatever it is God’s word says is a settled matter. 

“So he began to teach, and the subject of teaching was ‘he that marries will have troubles in the flesh’. And I was not married. Nobody sees the trouble to go and look for. And he read it from the Bible. And he began to teach part one, part two, part three. And the message was trouble.” 
 

Unsettled by the message while still in courtship, Oyedepo Jnr said he turned to his Bible for answers. 

He concluded the preacher had presented a misleading interpretation by omitting critical context. 

“I said no, I am not married yet, and I do not want to register for any kind of trouble. So after he finished teaching, I took my bible and opened it. If you are not enlightened, you will end up damaged. Deception is simply corrupting the truth,” he said. 

“This is where there is a need for us to come to the point of understanding.  If not, there will be deception. 

“You know, there are people who would tell you ‘you must fight in marriage’. It is a lie from hell. I began saying it when I saw that scripture. I started telling my wife when we were in courtship that we would never have an argument. 

“Our wedding anniversary was month of July; in our 17 years of marriage, we have not had one argument. Why? But I spare you. We have never had a day when I am raising my voice and my wife is raising her voice. Not one day.”
