Nanyah: Singer’s father breaks silence, reveals words she told him before death

The father of fast-rising singer Ifunanya Nwangene, popularly known as Nanyah, has finally spoken out following her heartbreaking death from a snakebite.

In an emotional interview, he opened up on her final moments and the painful words she said to him shortly before she passed away.

Nanyah Dies at 26 After Snakebite

Nanyah, 26, reportedly died after being bitten by a snake at her residence. According to reports, the incident happened while she was asleep.

She quickly sought medical help and was taken to different hospitals. Sadly, despite efforts to save her, she did not survive.

Her sudden death has sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing grief and raising concerns about access to emergency medical treatment.

Father Recalls Early Morning Distress Call

Speaking in an interview with BBC Igbo, Nanyah’s father, Christopher Nwangene, shared how the tragic day unfolded.

He said his daughter called him around 9:15am to inform him that she had been bitten by a snake. The shocking news left him in panic.

According to him, he immediately asked her where she was and what doctors were saying about her condition.

Struggles to Find Anti-Venom

The grieving father explained that Nanyah first visited a hospital where she was reportedly told there was no anti-venom available for snakebites.

She then went to a second hospital, but they allegedly gave her the same response.

It was only after someone advised her to go to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) that she proceeded there in an Uber.

At FMC, she was reportedly assured that anti-venom was available.

Uncle Met Her on Hospital Chair

Christopher Nwangene said he quickly contacted his brother and asked him to rush to the hospital.

When his brother arrived, he reportedly found Nanyah seated with a drip attached to her hand.

The father said he stayed in contact through phone calls as events unfolded at the hospital.

“Daddy, I Cannot Breathe” — Her Final Words

A few minutes later, he called her again. During that call, Nanyah reportedly told him, “Daddy, I cannot breathe.”

Alarmed, he asked her what was happening.

She replied, “I don’t know.”

Those words, according to him, were the last he heard from his daughter before she died.
