NBS website remains shut three weeks after hack

The National Bureau of Statistics website is still shut nearly three weeks after it was hacked, LIB can confirm.

A check by LIB on Tuesday, January 7 2025 showed that the website is still deactivated meaning that the December inflation report might not be released next week, January 15, 2025.

On December 18, 2024, NBS confirmed that its official website was hacked.

The agency had promised to recover the website, which served as Nigeria’s home of statistics and information.

The hacking incident came after an NBS Experience and Security Perception Survey, which showed that Nigerians paid an estimated N2.3 trillion as ransom in 12 months and that 65 percent of households had been affected by kidnapping incidents.
