Despite suffering a 4-1 loss at Manchester City on Wednesday evening, Arsenal have officially secured UEFA Champions League qualification. This is because Brighton & Hove Albion lost 3-1 to Nottingham Forest elsewhere on Wednesday, making it mathematically impossible for Arsenal to finish below fourth place in the Premier League this season. Consequently, Mikel Arteta’s team is guaranteed a spot in the Champions League group stage next season. Arsenal has not participated in the Champions League since the 2016/17 campaign, where they finished top of Group A, but were eliminated in the round of 16 after losing 10-2 on aggregate to Bayern Munich.
In addition, Manchester City has also secured a place in next season’s UCL. While Newcastle and Manchester United are strong favorites to take the remaining two spots, Liverpool, Tottenham, Brighton, and even Aston Villa still have an outside chance of qualifying.
