The Nigeria Army Council has recommended the release and reinstatement of Brigadier General Enitan Ransome-Kuti who has been under house arrest at an army barrack in Abuja.
This is contained in a confidential memo obtained by Sahara Reporters which also shows that the council ordered a reduction in his rank from Brigadier General to Colonel.
Brigadier General Kuti, the son of human rights activist, Beko Ransome-Kuti and nephew of Fela Kuti was arrested in January 2015 and tried for cowardly behaviour and accused of abandoning his duty post in Baga where he was commander of a joint multinational task force which resulted in Boko Haram militants’ attack and capture of Baga.
The court martial also accused him of failure to account for the weapons and ammunitions under his supervision which includes three multipurpose light-armoured towing vehicles (MTLB in Russian), three rocket-propelled grenade launchers, two pan herd and three Sagie.
The Brigadier General was represented at the court-martial by human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana.
