“Now he’s silent…” — Man takes action after wife refused to resign as a medical doctor

A Nigerian lady has stirred heated debate online after revealing that her husband asked her to resign from her job as a medical doctor after she announced her recent promotion.

The woman shared her experience on X, formerly known as Twitter, where her post quickly attracted hundreds of reactions and opinions.

“Resign or we go our separate ways”

In her post, she wrote: “Right after I shared the news of my promotion, my husband told me to quit my job as a doctor & become a full time housewife.”

She continued: “When I refused to give up the career I worked so hard for, he gave me an ultimatum. Resign by month-end or we go our separate ways.”

“Now he’s silent, sleeping in another room, all because I chose my dream.”

Her words struck a chord with many women who say they have faced similar pressure in their marriages.

Social media users react strongly

A user identified as Hermon did not mince words in his reaction. He wrote: “That’s not your husband. You married an enemy, not a husband. Fight for your dreams. They are valid. Marriage is not a place where one practices dominating over the other. Can two walk together except they agree?”

Another commenter, Lady Elena, advised couples to have honest discussions before tying the knot. She wrote: “Best to discuss these issues before marriage. Hope he changes his mind. Congrats on your promotion.”

Abimbola suggested a more cautious approach. According to her: “Tell him you declined the promotion but you are keeping the job to see how he behaves, if he is fine, then you need a heart to heart ♥️ talk. Competition in marriage is not healthy.”
