The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives NANNM has suspended its nationwide warning strike.
NANNM’s Assistant Secretary-General, Chidi Aligwe, confirmed on Saturday that the one-week warning strike, intended to end next Tuesday, has been called off.
According to him, the decision was made during a virtual meeting of NANNM’s National Executive Council.
“The strike has been suspended. Nurses and midwives are to resume duty immediately,” he confirmed.
The development came a day after the union disclaimed an earlier statement by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Mohammad Pate, that they called off the industrial action.
The strike which began on July 30 was in response to issues which include poor remuneration, staff shortages, unpaid allowances, and unsafe working conditions.
