NYSC DG speaks on N77,000 monthly allowance for Corpers

Corps members nationwide are set to receive a minimum wage of ₦77,000, according to the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed.

Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday during the commissioning of a staff bus donated by a private company, Ahmed confirmed that arrangements for the increased allowance had been finalized.

He reiterated his commitment to prioritizing the welfare and security of corps members. “By 2025, corps members will enjoy all the benefits they deserve. Their welfare and security remain my primary focus,” he stated.

Ahmed also highlighted the significance of the newly donated bus, noting that it would alleviate transportation challenges faced by both staff and corps members. “This donation will greatly ease the commuting difficulties reported by our staff and corps members,” he added.

Meanwhile, the NYSC DG has cautioned corps members against traveling at night or boarding roadside vehicles. During his visits to the Anambra State Orientation Camp in Mbaukwu and the Ebonyi State Orientation Camp in Afikpo, he advised corps members to be agents of positive change in their host communities.

He encouraged them to identify the needs of their host communities, collaborate with residents, and initiate impactful projects to improve local living standards. Additionally, Ahmed stressed the importance of obtaining proper authorization from the NYSC and employers for any necessary travel, warning against unauthorized and nighttime journeys.
