The National Publicity Secretary of the Abure-led faction of Labour Party, Abayomi Arabambi, has revealed that the party will call a meeting of the National Executive Council, or NEC, to suggest that Peter Obi, its previous presidential candidate, be expelled. The party is led by Julius Abure, a factional leader.
Speaking on Tuesday during the Channels Morning Brief, Arabambi explained that Obi, who had previously been placed on suspension, proceeded to engage in what the party described as anti-party activities.
He further disclosed that the NEC would soon meet to formally recommend Obi’s expulsion, which would then be confirmed at the party’s national convention in line with the Labour Party constitution and the practice of most political parties.
”Let me make it very clear: we are convening a NEC [National Executive Council] meeting where he (Obi) will be expelled. It is unconstitutional for you to belong to two political parties at a time. They have deceived him to their side, and there he shall remain.
Obi will be expelled from our party. He is no longer a member. It is not within his right to claim, ‘I am still a member of the Labour Party,’ and at the same time be hobnobbing with what we call the ‘yahoo yahoo’ coalition. We are not going to accept that.” he said
