Ondo PDP Criticizes Governor Akeredolu for Delayed Return to Ondo State

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has raised concerns over the delay in the return of Rotimi Akeredolu, the Governor of Ondo State, to his home state following his three-month medical leave in Germany. Akeredolu’s decision to spend several days in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, upon his return has sparked criticism from the opposition party.

Governor Akeredolu arrived back in Nigeria on Thursday, marking the end of his medical leave. While it is customary for politicians to resume their official duties in their respective states immediately upon their return from such a lengthy absence, Akeredolu’s decision to stay in Ibadan has raised eyebrows.

Kennedy Peretei, the spokesperson for the Ondo State PDP, expressed disappointment in the Governor’s choice of location, stating that it would have been more appropriate for him to return to Ondo State first. Peretei argued that this would have been a gesture of respect to the people of Ondo State, who had been praying for the Governor’s swift recovery.

In a statement issued on Friday, Peretei commented, “The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ondo State Chapter expected that, now that the Governor is back in Nigeria, his first point of call should have been Ondo State, where everybody prayed for his quick recovery and return to his duties.”

The statement went on to express the party’s dissatisfaction with the Governor’s directive for all State Cabinet members and State Assembly members to join him in Ibadan. The PDP perceived this as an affront to the sensibilities of the people of Ondo State.

Furthermore, the opposition party raised concerns that Akeredolu’s extended stay in Ibadan might suggest his intention to relocate the Ondo State Government House to his residence in Oyo. They emphasized the need for the Governor to notify the State Assembly if he is fit to resume his duties so that the remaining tenure can be properly concluded.

The PDP’s criticism reflects a growing sentiment among residents of Ondo State who are eagerly anticipating the Governor’s return to his official duties within the state. The delay in Akeredolu’s homecoming has sparked debates and discussions regarding his commitment to serving the people of Ondo State in the remaining period of his tenure.
