Ahead of the UEFA Nations League against Croatia and Sweden, Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes has reacted to criticisms that he scores only penalties by comparing himself with City’s Kevin de Bruyne.
Portugal won the inaugural Nations League in 2019 and will be among the favourites to lift the crown again but must get past World Cup finalist before travelling to the Friends Arena.
Speaking with A Bola, Fernandes said: “It was a good impact, because we managed to reach the Champions League and now our goals have to be different, because we have not won any trophy.
“I hear people saying, ah, he only scores from penalty kicks. But a little while ago, I saw the statistics and, except for penalties, only Kevin de Bruyne has a higher involvement in goals than me in England when it comes to midfielders.”
In 14 Premier League matches after signing for the Red Devils in December, the midfielder scored eight goals and delivered seven assists with only four strikes coming from the penalty spot.
