Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has disclosed that campaigns are being orchestrated against the anti-corruption war of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
Addressing labour leaders and civil society organisations at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja yesterday, Osinbajo said a bring-back-corruption campaign was being mounted in the social media.
“The social media campaign of bring-back-corruption is an orchestrated one. Nobody that is suffering can say bring back corruption. Attempts by those who are being tried for corruption to delay trials are also part of the orchestrated campaign,” he said.
According to him, “if we do not speak up against corrupt officials who make it look as if there is a witch-hunt, then we will not succeed in the fight. Government needs everybody to speak up.”
He described the fight against corruption as a serious battle for Buhari’s administration, saying “it is tough.”
The acting president told the labour leaders that “there is no way you will eat an omelette without breaking an egg. There is so much we can do with the Nigerian economy.”
He said the government was going to be consulting with the labour union and civil societies on its economic recovery and growth plan to be launched this month.
Earlier, president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Ayuba Wabba said they equally wanted to see the war against corruption reach all levels of government.
