Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has donated a total of ₦15 million to two schools in Bauchi State, Malikiya College of Nursing Sciences and Intisharu Taufizul Quranic School, during a visit on Friday.
Obi, who has continued to champion social development causes across Nigeria, donated ₦10 million to the nursing college and ₦5 million to the Quranic school.
While addressing students and staff at the Malikiya College of Nursing Sciences, the former Anambra State governor underscored the vital role nurses play in Nigeria’s healthcare system.
“You are very important to the society, you are very important to this country called Nigeria. If there is anything we can do to support what you are doing, we need to do it,” Obi said.
“The number one measure of success of any nation is health, and you can’t measure health without thinking of the human infrastructure. The nurse is important. The nurse knows the patient, owns the patient, the nurse is everything,” he added.
Obi also revealed that as part of his ongoing support to the health sector, he has consistently visited and contributed to over 70 nursing schools across the country each year.
In response, the proprietors of both schools, Aminu Danmaliki and Alhaji Usman Abubakar, expressed deep gratitude to Obi for the gesture. They assured him that the funds would be put to proper use to improve the quality of education and facilities in their respective institutions.
