Police label man yahoo boy over love letter to girlfriend, extort ₦260k from him

The Nigerian Police has labeled a man a yahoo boy after finding a love letter he wrote to his girlfriend on his phone, eventually extorting ₦260,000 from him.

This was revealed in a post the man shared on his page via a popular social media platform, X, formerly known as Twitter.

The man, identified as @TenmanNoble1, took to his page to give a detailed account of the incident.

While tagging the official handle of the police force, he wrote: “@PoliceNG Your men are running an illegal operation on the road leading to MM1 airport terminal. At 5:30 am this morning, I was heading to the airport for my 7:30 am flight when I was detained, and my phone was seized.”

“They went through my messages and pictures but found nothing incriminating. They then checked my notes and came across a love letter I wrote to my girlfriend many years ago. Immediately, they labeled me a yahoo boy and refused to return my phone. “

After some time, they said they would only release me on one condition — I had to withdraw ₦260,000 from a nearby POS machine. This was already close to 7:00 am, and I almost missed my flight, but fortunately, it was delayed by an hour. I hate y’all so much.”

As the post circulated online, concerned individuals flooded the comment section to share their thoughts and reactions.

See some reactions below:

@enilowo: “If i were you, i would have missed that flight and requested to be taken to the station, will never release my phone to any policeman though. Never!”

@Ashabul_Jannaah: “Oh my gosh? Where are we heading in this country, for God’s sake? So now, writing a love letter is evidence of fraud? Well, let me not jump to conclusions, let me hear the other side of the story as well. But if this is true, then the system is beyond rotten.”

@ib_georgee: “Same thing happened to me.. they tricked me to show them my flight reservations and that’s how they started going through my phone. But when they saw what’s bigger than them, they let me go.. I was boiling that day. So these harassments still happen@PoliceNG.”

@Cleverlydey4u: “You people that we’re defending nigeria police few weeks ago because it was Davido voice out on them God will punish all of you 1 by 1 .”

@LawdLil: “Na to de carry car wey get better iron for front if you see them you jam them de go if possible you kill them.”

@TheRealCEOAmber: “This people don’t listen to their oga anymore. I thought no searching of phones anymore . Na wa oh.”

@oluwalanre2: “One thing I have learnt over time,as a young sharp or anybody while making money in Nig ,try as much to make contact not everytime ur phone is on DND,make as many contact u can try to make to always avoid stories like this.”
