As the Christmas and end-of-year season sets in, concern is deepening over the prolonged non-payment of executed and certified NDDC contracts. Many contractors—some owed for three to six years—are once again ending the year financially stranded, at a time traditionally meant for family care, rest, and preparation for the coming year, including the pressing demands of school fees and support for aged dependants.
Although assurances have been given that payments are ongoing, contractors say the situation has remained largely unchanged, with no clear communication addressing the backlog. Stakeholders are therefore calling for transparency, verifiable records, and timely engagement, stressing that urgent intervention is needed to restore confidence in the Commission’s mandate and ease the hardship facing contractors during this sensitive season.
