Raul Asencio facing up to five years in prison after being accused of sharing an explicit video of a minor

Real Madrid defender, Raul Asencio is facing up to five years in jail for allegedly distributing an explicit video of a 16-year-old girl.

Asencio, 21, is under investigation, along with three of his former team-mates, Ferran Ruiz, Juan Rodriguez, and Andres Garcia from Madrid’s youth team, for the alleged incident that took place on June 15, 2023, in Gran Canaria, and was reported to the Spanish police by the girl’s mother a little under two months later.

The mother claimed one of the four men recorded an explicit video of her daughter before sharing it.

The complainant has stated that the sexual activity was consensual, but the recording of it was not.

Asencio, who was named in Madrid’s starting XI for their Champions League clash with Manchester City on Tuesday night, appealed to the Provincial Court of Las Palmas to be dropped as a suspect in the case on the grounds that the evidence was speculative, but the charges against him have been upheld.

The court determined that there are ‘reasonable indications’ of criminal activity, with Asencio facing allegations of committing the crime of discovery and disclosure of secrets, plus distributing child porn0graphy.

The court ruling also stated that one of the suspects claimed Asencio showed him the video, with mobile records indicating that it was received via WhatsApp.

The phone records of the suspects also revealed conversations where the complainant was spoken about in a derogatory way.

Article 197 of Spain’s Criminal Code states that any individual found guilty of recording and sharing an explicit video of a minor will face between three-and-a-half and five years in prison.

According to Mail Online, this would drop to a two-and-a-half to four-year prison sentence if Asencio is found guilty of non-consensual recording.
