The arrest of a male student of the Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) who was allegedly caught raping a male colleague, has led to several conversations about rape.
Unconfirmed online reports claim the 400-level student managed to subdue the victim and then proceeded to sexually assault him.
The spokesperson of the Ekiti State Police Command, Abutu Sunday, who confirmed the arrest on Tuesday said that the suspect denied the allegations.
“Investigation has commenced, the suspect has been arrested and investigations have commenced because he is denying what the complainant is alleging, so we will see the result of the investigation,” the PPRO added.
A video which went viral on Monday, June 17, showed the suspect being taken away by police while a crowd made up of students followed behind, demanding to deliver justice on the victim by themselves.
As the video went viral on X, a number of users questioned why a man would allegedly rape another man.
This shocking take led to a conversation about trivialising rape when women are the victims of men as opposed to when men are the victims of fellow men.
Many also pointed out how no one tried to blame the victim or try to make excuses for the suspect.
