Rolfes: Havertz Will Eventually Leave Leverkusen Is A Logical Development

Liverpool have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Kai Havertz after a Bayer Leverkusen chief admitted the star’s exit was “logical”.

The German midfielder has been touted for a move to Anfield, while several other big clubs have shown an interest in signing him.

Man Utd, Man City, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have also been monitoring Havertz’s progress, and it seems Leverkusen are willing to listen to offers.

Only this week Havertz announced he was ready to take a “big step” in his career, and teased a move abroad.

Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes has since responded, telling Bild : “The fact that Kai will eventually leave Leverkusen is a logical development.

“I am not surprised that [moving] abroad attracts him. We know what he feels very comfortable with us, we are in constant contact with Kai – everything is open and transparent.”

The 20-year-old is one of the rising stars of the Bundesliga, and has so far scored 10 goals in 34 matches across all competitions for his club side.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is believed to be an admirer of his fellow countryman, and will be buoyed by Havertz’s recent comments.

“I’m ready to take a big step, and I like challenges,’ Havertz told Sport Bild. “For me, this also includes abroad.

“Leverkusen are a great club, I feel good. I have always said that. But of course I want to take the next step in my career at some point. That’s my ambition.”

Whether Liverpool’s business in the transfer market this summer will be hampered by the current economic crisis remains to be seen, but Leverkusen have made it clear that Havertz will not come cheap.

Discussing the potential of the youngster leaving the club, Leverkusen boss Peter Bosz said to Algemeen Dagblad : “He can’t be held on to next summer. That will be a transfer of €100 million.

“What am I saying? More than 100 million!”
