A Nigerian man has captured social media’s attention after sharing his experience with a real estate agent while trying to rent an apartment.
The man, identified on Twitter as @Nnamdi, reached out to a property agent in search of a self-contained apartment in a fenced compound with a gate.
He was initially hopeful about renting the house but was shocked by the details he received.
The agent sent him a full breakdown of the charges, which included the self-contain apartment, a caution fee, legal fees, a service charge, agency fees, and a surprising ‘drink’ fee, leaving him astonished.
The agent’s message read:
“Self-contain N450k, portable fence with gate, caution fee N50k, legal N45k, service charge N50k, agency N90k, and… drink N30k.”
The inclusion of a “drink” fee particularly caught @Nnamdi off guard, prompting him to express his disbelief online.
The post quickly went viral, sparking reactions from other Nigerians who had faced similar experiences with agents and landlords.
“Many shared their own stories, while others offered advice, and some joked about the absurdity of the ‘drink’ fee.”
