Serie A: Hojlund hails Conte influence, eyes Lukaku partnership

Rasmus Hojlund has praised Napoli head coach Antonio Conte for accelerating his development and says he is keen to play alongside Romelu Lukaku as the club battles through a demanding season disrupted by injuries.

The Denmark international joined Napoli from Manchester United in August, initially as cover during Lukaku’s pre-season injury.

However, a growing injury list has forced Hojlund into regular action across Serie A, the Champions League and domestic cup competitions.

“It’s difficult for the team, with all the injuries, I have to play all the time,” Hojlund said. “I can’t complain, but it’s been very difficult, both mentally and physically.”

Injury-hit Napoli forced to adapt

Napoli’s injury crisis has left few rotation options, a situation highlighted publicly by teammate Scott McTominay, who listed several long-term absentees in a post-match interview.

“He’s obviously right,” Hojlund said. “But the players who are here, we’ve got to step up.”

Despite the challenges, Napoli remain in contention near the top of the table and face a key Serie A test away to Juventus this weekend. Hojlund scored twice when the sides met in December and is hopeful of another strong showing.

“It’s a special game for the club, the players, the fans, everyone around Napoli,” he said. “It would be nice to do that again.”

Conte’s impact on Hojlund’s growth

Since his arrival, Hojlund’s all-round play has shown noticeable improvement, something he credits largely to Conte’s influence.

“I just want to focus on learning from him and listening to everything he says, because he really is an incredible manager,” Hojlund said. “I’m sure he can help me become a better player than I am.”

The striker, who has nine goals and three assists in 26 appearances this season, stressed that his motivation goes beyond statistics.

“If I don’t score any more goals this season and we win another trophy, then I’d be happy,” he said. “I want to help the team in different ways.”

Open to Lukaku partnership

With Lukaku nearing full fitness, questions have emerged over how Napoli will line up in attack. Hojlund believes the pair can coexist.

“We complement each other on the pitch,” he said. “It could be a good thing both as competitors and also playing alongside each other. When I get asked if we can play together, I say yes.”
