Quique Setien has admitted that he won’t have a problem with being replaced as Barcelona coach.
The former Las Palmas and Real Betis boss was appointed as Ernesto Valverde’s successor in January, only after Xavi Hernandez rejected the job.
“Let’s hope Xavi [eventually] comes and that he does very well,” Setien told El Larguero.
“I’ve admired Xavi and every great player.
“If I have to go and he comes in, then it’s not a problem. That’s the world of coaching.”
Setien also revealed that he was slightly surprised to be asked to take over at the Camp Nou.
“Days before Barcelona called me, I was about to leave to coach in Egypt,” he said.
“I would’ve coached Barcelona for free. Well, maybe not for free, but in almost any circumstance.”
Josep Maria Bartomeu was criticised for the way he went about appointing Valverde’s successor, but Setien has no problems with the president.
“I hope he completes his term,” he commented.
“I have a great relationship with him. We speak quite often.
“He’s explained [the situation with the board] to me and the players… we believe him.”
