Country star Jelly Roll has set social media on fire after delivering a deeply religious acceptance speech at the 2026 Grammy Awards, with critics accusing him of pushing faith too far on music’s biggest stage.
The 41-year-old singer won Best Contemporary Country Album for Beautifully Broken, beating Miranda Lambert, Eric Church, Tyler Childers and Kelsea Ballerini. But it wasn’t the win that got people talking, it was what came after.
Jelly Roll spoke openly about Jesus and Christianity, saying both music and faith changed his life. He even held up a Bible as he addressed the crowd.
“Jesus is for everybody,” he said, stressing that faith doesn’t belong to any political party or industry.
While many viewers found the moment powerful and emotional, critics online weren’t having it. Some users mocked the speech, with a few harshly accusing him of “religious psychosis,” while others linked his recent dramatic weight loss to his “behaviour.”
Still, Jelly Roll remained unapologetic.
During the speech, he also praised his wife Bunnie Xo, crediting her for helping him turn his life around during a difficult period before fame. The singer has been open about his troubled past and how faith and family played a major role in his transformation.
Adding to his big night, Jelly Roll also won Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song for Amen, his collaboration with Shaboozey.
