Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has revealed that it will be the leagues and federations who decide on when professional sport, rather than the government.
In football’s case, LaLiga president Javier Tebas and Spanish Football Federation president Luis Rubiales have been in consultation with Irene Lozano, the president of the National Sports Council, to discuss when LaLiga Santander and LaLiga SmartBank can return.
The three parties came to an agreement to try their best to bring football back, and Sanchez alluded to it not being too far off during a press conference on Saturday.
“I’m more of a basketball fan than a football fan, but let’s hope it’s soon,” Sanchez said.
“It will be the federations and the leagues that decide [when they return]
“We have started to allow individual training for team sports.
“Let’s hope it’s soon, but we’ll see it sooner on TV than in the stadium, I’m afraid.
“It will be possible to carry out individual training of players and the basic training of professional leagues [from May 4].”
That will be the date when the athletes can start again, in compliance with the protocols and instructions of LaLiga.
There are teams, like Real Madrid, that already have a date to return to training.
Zinedine Zidane’s players and the employees who work around the players are scheduled to return on May 11.
Throughout next week, it is expected that players in LaLiga Santander and LaLiga SmartBank will take the coronavirus tests in order to detect any possible positive coronavirus cases prior to the return of training.
