Star of Netflix show Eternal Love dies at 37 after ‘falling to his death

Yu Menglong, one of China’s most recognisable celebrities, has died at the age of 37 following a tragic accident that saw the actor fall from a building. 

According to his management team, the star reportedly “fell to his death” on Thursday, September 11. 

In a video statement posted to Chinese social media platform Weibo, his team expressed their grief. 

“With unbearable sorrow, we announce that our beloved Menglong fell to his death,” they said. 

“Police have ruled out any criminality. 

“We hope he rests in peace and his loved ones remain strong.” 

The death of the Chinese household favourite has shocked fans across Asia. 

Menglong starred in the fantasy romance Eternal Love. 

The Netflix drama garnered more than 50 billion views in just 18 months. 

Speculation around Menglong’s de@th began just hours prior to the statement from his team, after a paparazzi account claimed the performer had died. 

The site reported Menglong had fallen “from a height” from a friend’s apartment in Beijing. 

In a now deleted post, it was speculated Yu had been spending the evening with “five or six” friends, before locking himself in a guest room around 2am. 

The post said: “When his friends were leaving the flat this morning at 6am, they couldn’t find him and only discovered his body on the ground floor”. 

“A resident who was walking their dog contacted the police, who have ruled out any criminality,” the post continued. 

The post reported that the police investigation remains ongoing.
