State of emergency declared in New York City over flash flooding (Videos)

In New York, a state of emergency has been proclaimed because of the powerful thunderstorms that led to flash flooding.

Heavy rains caused flooding throughout New York, which shut down streets and disrupted subway service as a result of dangerous and life threatening rainfall.

At least one terminal at LaGuardia Airport was closed on Friday because of flooding in many of the city’s subways, streets, and highways.

New York state Governor Kathy Hochul said up to five inches of rain fell in some areas overnight and as much as 7 inches more is on the way.

“This is a dangerous, life-threatening storm,” Ms Hochul added.
