Legendary British band, the Rolling Stones have issued a statement to US presidential candidate Donald Trump saying that he does not have permission to use the band’s music during any of his campaigns or rallies.
Donald Trump has been playing their songs at his rallies for months with their 1969 hit ‘You Can’t Always Get What You Want’ being a particular favourite.
“The Rolling Stones have never given permission to the Trump campaign to use their songs and have requested that they cease all use immediately,” a spokesperson for the legendary British band told TIME Wednesday.Trump has been known to play at least two other songs by the Rolling Stones at his rallies: “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” “Sympathy for the Devil” and “Brown Sugar.” A campaign volunteer told the New Yorker in February that Trump personally curated the playlist, which also includes Elton John and music from “Cats” and “The Phantom of the Opera.”
It’s not the first time a popular musician has distanced himself or herself from Donald Trump. In February, Adele released a statement distancing herself from the Billionaire businessman.
The singer issued a statement making it clear she had “not given permission for her music to be used for any political campaigning,” .
Neil Young, Tyler and Aerosmith have also warned Trump to stop using their music.
Trump is now the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, after his last Republican rival John Kasich quit the race on Wednesday.
