Sa’ad Abubakar III, who also serves as President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, has declared Friday, March 20, 2026, as the day for the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr in Nigeria following the completion of the Ramadan fast.
The announcement came after the non-sighting of the crescent moon marking the end of Ramadan across the country.
In a statement issued by Sambo Wali Junaidu, the Sultanate Council confirmed that no verified reports of the Shawwal 1447AH crescent were received from any part of Nigeria on Wednesday. As a result, Thursday, March 19, will complete the 30 days of Ramadan, making Friday the first day of Shawwal.
The Sultan called on Muslims across the country to use the occasion to pray for peace, unity and continued progress in Nigeria as they celebrate the end of the holy month of fasting.
