Super Eagles and FC Crotone towering striker, Simeon “Simy” Nwankwo has dedicated his 20-goal tally to late Sergio Mascheroni, the club athletic trainer who died in a tragic accident on October 2 last year.

In an exclusive chat with Tuttomecartowebb, Simy showered encomium on teammates and staff of the club for a job well done, adding that he couldn’t have achieved such feat without the moral supports from teammates and backroom staff.

“A difficult season ended, but we scored the important goals and gain promotion, and being the top scorer is an important goal not only for me but for the whole club and the team:“I am grateful to everyone for the help they gave me. I had already scored 20 goals in Portugal, but I repeat the feat here, the important thing in football is team spirit” They have always loved me here, it is a reward for everyone for what I  achieved. And I dedicate my goals to Sergio Mascheroni and his family, he would have been happy with what we did, “Simy told Tuttomecartowebb.

With 20 goals from 36 games, the Pitagorici’ promotion campaign under Stroppa became a reality after three seasons of futile effort, but kudos must go to their Nigerian import who worked tirelessly to convert half-chance into goals.Crotone will join Benevento in Serie A after the Calabrian side secured promotion thanks to a 5-1 thumping of Livorno in July.

The Pitagorici played their first season in Italy’s top-flight back in 2016/17, finishing 17th after defeating Lazio 3-1 on the final matchday while Empoli were relegated after falling to Palermo.Simy featured for Nigeria in 2018 FIFA World Cup, Russia, coming in on a rescue mission against Albiceleste of Argentina.
