Super Falcons Defeat Senegal In Abuja To Qualify For AWCON 2016
Nigeria’s national women football team, the Super Falcons have secured qualification ticket for the 10th Africa Women’s Cup of Nations billed to take place in Cameroon later this year after they beat their Senegalese counterparts 2-0 in Abuja on Tuesday.
The reigning African Champions sealed their place in Cameroon 2016 courtesy of a 3-1 aggregate score line having previously played out a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Dakar few days ago.
Asisat Oshoala missed the chance to give Nigeria the lead in Tuesday’s game played at the Abuja National Stadium as she blew away a 31st minute penalty kick awarded to the Nigeria team.
However five minutes after that big miss, the Falcons broke the deadlock through Rita Chikwelu before Osarenoma Igbinovia sealed victory and by extension qualification, with her 46th minute goal.
Pockets of fans including embattled NFF President, Amaju Pinnick, were present at the stadium to cheer the Falcons to victory.
The victory confirmed the Falcons’ superiority over their West African opponents who were quite hostile in the reverse fixture.
