Suspected herdsmen kill retired army officer and one other in Benue

A retired army officer was shot d3ad during an attack in Anem Village, Ikyurav-Ya, Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State.

Sources said the incident occurred on February 8, 2026 at about 5:00 p.m., when the deceased identified as  Chiayongo Jem’m, was reportedly targeted by suspected Fulani herder bandits, security analyst Zagazola Makama reported. 

“The corpse was removed by his family to an unidentified mortuary in Ikyogen,” a source said.

DPO Jato-Aka mobilized a joint patrol team to the scene and is combing nearby bushes to track the suspects and effect arrests. 

The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) is leading the ongoing investigation.

Further developments on the case will be communicated.

In a similar development, suspected herdsmen on Monday night, attacked Tomatan, a settlement in Kwande, k!lling one person.
