The Shirt Arsenal Will Wear This Evening Against Man City

Arsenal have released the NHS and Black Lives Matter tribute kit that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Co will wear against Manchester City on Wednesday.

Every Premier League player will have the name on the back of their shirt swapped out for ‘Black Lives Matter’ for the opening round of matches, starting on Wednesday and fans got a glimpse of how the additions look with Arsenal’s third kit.

The anti-racism movement has gathered real momentum during the league’s hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic and a Black Lives Matter logo will also remain on the sleeves of shirts for the rest of the 2019-20 season.

Raheem Sterling, who will likely face Arsenal on Wednesday night, has been a vocal leader among Premier League players calling for greater change amid the Black Lives Matter movement.

As well as the kits, players who opt to take a knee before games or in celebration – a gesture which has become synonymous with the movement and for fighting against racism – will be supported by the league.

Prior to a behind-closed-doors friendly game last week, Arsenal players sported t-shirts pre-match which read ‘I can’t breathe’, ‘My skin is not a crime’ and ‘I’m not black but I stand with you’.

A league-wide players’ statement said last week: ‘We, the players, stand together with the singular objective of eradicating racial prejudice wherever it exists, to bring about a global society of inclusion, respect, and equal opportunities for all, regardless of their colour or creed.’

Along with the representation to raise further awareness of the Black Lives Matter campaign, kits will also include a logo of the National Health Service to pay thanks to their work during the coronavirus crisis.

In the United Kingdom, the NHS has seen a huge surge in demand due to Covid-19 and has rallied following more than 41,000 deaths from the virus.

Many Premier League footballers have made charitable donations to help health services and the inclusion of the logo is another gesture to say thank you.

Arsenal’s trip to face Man City is vital as they look to keep their fading Champions League ambitions alive with nine games remaining.

Mikel Arteta’s side are sat ninth, eight points adrift of Chelsea in fourth, and know they need to hit the ground running upon the league’s return about a 100-day hiatus on Wednesday.
