“They gave me a car that could’ve killed me” — Nigerian-American woman accuses ex-husband’s family of trying to harm her during visit to Nigeria

A Nigerian-American woman has shared a chilling story online, accusing her ex-husband’s family of putting her life at risk during a visit to Nigeria for their traditional wedding.

In the now-viral video, she claimed she had already married her husband in the U.S. and helped with his immigration papers. When she travelled to Ibadan, Nigeria — her husband’s hometown — to complete their traditional wedding, she alleged that things took a dark turn.

According to her, despite the family being wealthy and owning car dealerships, they refused to provide her a proper car for movement. After much back and forth, she was eventually given a 2010 Toyota RAV4 that she said felt “off” from the start.

During a trip to Ibadan for a radio interview, the vehicle broke down on a highway. With military personnel warning them to vacate the area due to ongoing kidnappings, a mechanic was called in — and that’s when things got worse.

The mechanic reportedly found that the brakes had no fluid and may have been cut, the gas tank had a hole, and the coolant system was dry. She was told the car could have exploded if they had continued driving.

Calls to her husband and his parents allegedly went unanswered. The family later responded, saying they had only checked “if the car turned on.” Given their status and background in the auto industry, she found the explanation suspicious.

She claimed her husband would have benefited if anything had happened to her, as her death would have made him eligible for a green card or U.S. citizenship as a widower.

To make matters worse, she said her ex-husband later tried to force her to sign a gag order, preventing her from telling her story publicly — which she refused.

“I was expected to stay quiet,” she said. “But this story needs to be heard.”
