Suspected thieves have broken into the residence of retired ace footballer, Chief Olusegun Odegbami and carted away his properties worth about N15 million.
The incident, according to the police, occurred at his residence located at Saro Close, Victoria Island, Lagos at midnight while he was asleep.
Items stolen, the police said, included one iphone 7 plus valued at N490,000; Samsung Galaxy S3 valued at N150,000; two apple laptops valued at N600,000, box containing clothe and shoes valued N500,000, and Rolex wrist watch valued at N12 million.
Following the unfortunate development, Odegbami reported the incident to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in charge of Bar Beach Police Division, Victoria Island, Lagos, CSP Olusegun Ajamolaya who swung into action and tracked one of the stolen Samsung phone to Epe Area of Lagos where he arrested one Ajibade Rahmon with the stolen phone.
During investigation, Rahmon allegedly denied stealing the phone but that he bought it from someone at Orange Market, Ketu, Lagos.
He led the police to the place to arrest the alleged seller of the phone identified as Isaac Okenuga who also denied stealing the phone and led the police to arrest Daramola Abiodun and Olusola Orisansope as the people who sold the phone to him.
During interrogation, Abiodun allegedly confessed to receiving the phone from one Oke Moses and led the police to arrest him.
When questioned, Oke Moses allegedly confessed to the crime that he and Abdulrahmon Azeez stole the Samsung phone from the apartment of the complainant.
When asked about the whereabouts of the other stolen items, Moses allegedly insisted that they only stole the Samsung phone from the apartment of the complainant and escaped.
After investigation all the arrested suspects were arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court Lagos on a four-count charge of burglary, stealing and receiving stolen properties.
Police prosecutor, Sgt. Chinedu Njoku said the offences committed were punishable under section 411, 307 (b) (2) 287 and 328 (1) of the criminal laws of Lagos state, 2015.
All the accused pleaded not guilty to the alleged crime and Chief Magistrate Mrs. A.F.O Botoku granted them bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.
Botoku adjourned the case to 17 August, 2017 for mention.
The suspects were ordered to be remanded in Ikoyi Prison pending when they would fulfil their bail conditions.
