Above all, the health of people is the most important thing. But the fight against the coronavirus also hits football with full force. As of today, it cannot even be ruled out that there will be no German champion in the Bundesliga at the end of the season!
The 36 club bosses of the 1st and 2nd league meet on Monday for a crisis meeting to discuss possible plans and, if possible, to take initial decisions.
The only thing that is certain at the moment is that the league match will kick off as planned this weekend without spectators.
Like Gladbach-Cologne clash and Dortmund’s Champions League match vs PSG. And it cannot be ruled out that these ghost games for players and fans will remain until the last matchday on May 16, if the virus is not contained beforehand.
Bavaria has already prohibited all major events or excluded spectators by the end of the Easter holidays on April 20.
This affects a total of five Bundesliga match days, a possible Champions League quarter-final of FC Bayern and the international match against Italy in Nuremberg (March 31).
If a player is tested positive, he and the entire team as people who have close contact, would have to be quarantined for around two weeks according to the current regulations. And probably also the players who played against this club the weekend before.
If this the case happened several times, the season would hardly be over.
The German Football League has been pleasingly prudent so far. The next few weeks will have to show whether and which methods the league have in own hand to master the coronavirus crisis.
