President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has honoured Nigeria’s victorious Super Falcons with national awards, monetary gifts, and houses following their historic triumph at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
At a special reception held at the State House in Abuja on Monday, Tinubu announced the conferment of the National Honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on each of the 24 players who secured Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON title after a dramatic comeback victory against hosts Morocco.
In addition to the national honour, each player was awarded a fully furnished three-bedroom apartment and a cash reward of $100,000. Members of the team’s technical crew were also not left out, as each was awarded $50,000 in appreciation for their strategic contribution to the historic win.
The team had been warmly received earlier by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and the wife of the Vice President, Nana Shettima, before meeting with the President. The celebration comes after the Falcons’ thrilling 3–2 victory in Rabat, where they came from two goals down to beat Morocco and secure the continental crown.
The honours and rewards were met with loud cheers from the players, officials, and stakeholders in attendance, with many praising the President’s gesture as a strong boost for women’s sports in Nigeria.
Tinubu also pledged continued investment in sports development, particularly in women’s football, as he encouraged young Nigerians to draw inspiration from the Falcons’ success.
